MY WAY CHAPTER1 Peter is in a moment of his life in which nothing seems to have sense. Desperate for his situation and dominated by his faith, he decided to make the Way of Santiago. A sad but calm morning he begins it in Pamplona, and he does without any problem at sight. The first few days, Peter devotes himself to ride like a machine, without paying attention either to those who walk next to him or the beautiful countryside that invites to look for hope, hope that contrasts with his hopelessness and sensation of scorn towards himself. He comes to Los Arcos, he passes by its hotel near the river, and next to the church, and keeps on walking up to Belorado. This situation of being lost in his thoughts derived one day, near the Monastery of San Juan de Ortega, in a dangerous incident. Lost in his thoughts I have said, and going forwards because of the will of his horse he suffered an accident that could have been fatal. Then was when the main character to Peater appeared; they picked him up and took him and his horse to the nearest town, Burgos. They told me that I had had an accident ten days before and it had interrupted my pilgrimage, so I thought it was time to change that comfortable bedroom where I was for the exhausting path that leads to the grave of Santiago. My horse was ok. and ready and my saviors decided to follow me, I did not understand why so much worry if I didn’t find strong reasons to continue… The landscape if the Castilian plateau was beginning to become a bit more ondulate, furrowed by rivers and ditches, it was not so monotonously flat and arid as it had been for more that 50 km. The same day, the people who were coming with me and myself, after a quiet day entered Castrojeriz and its Colegiata de Santa María del Manzano. After a brief rest we left the village and continued our rout towards Mansilla de las Mulas where we expected to spend that night. My sorrow seemed to vanish thanks to my companions; some sensible words came out of my mouth at last; however the bitterness of my mind seemed not to want to lose the battle. |
