EU wins Nobel Peace Prize 2012
El comité noruego del premio Nobel de la Paz destacó «la contribución de la UE durante más de seis décadas al progreso de la paz y la reconciliación, la democracia y los derechos humanos en Europa».
“We are all very proud and we, that means not only the European leaders, all the European citizens from this generation and the former generation. We are all very proud that we receive this Nobel Prize. A recognition of the work of the European Union as a peace maker. We were in war during centuries. We had those two world wars, that actually were European civil wars. We put an end on this, and with the European Union that kind of war can not happen again anymore. So the European Union is really the biggest peacemaking institution ever created in world history, and we have still a mission of propagating peace, democracy, human rights - in the rest of the world”
“It is a great honour for the European Union to be awarded the 2012 Nobel Peace prize by the Nobel Peace prize committee. It is indeed a great honour for all the 500 million citizens of Europe, for all the Member States and all the European institutions to receive this Nobel Prize for Peace.
It is justified recognition for a unique project that works for the benefit of its citizens and also for the benefit of the world.
These values: freedom, democracy, justice, the rule of law and respect for human rights are the ones that people all over the world aspire to. These are also the values that the European Union promotes in order to make the world a better place for all
The award today by the Nobel Committee shows that in these difficult times the European Union remains an inspiration for countries and people all over the world and that the international community needs a strong European Union.
The Nobel Peace Prize Committee and the international community are now sending a very important message to Europe that the European Union is something very precious, that we should cherish it for the good of Europeans and for the good of the entire world.”
I wonder why so high values within this unique project are not defended by everybody in the EU…
I’m happy and proud because, as European citizen, I’ve been awarded this Nobel Prize too!
But, I’m afraid, a lot has to be done from now on…to avoid…other tremendous type of war inside the Union: poverty vs wealthy
